Who’s in Charge Around Here?

WHO’S IN CHARGE AROUND HERE?

Does that get asked at work?  Does that get asked in the home?  Does that get asked in the classroom or on the sports field?

What about the Church?  Who’s in charge around here?

The Sardis church got the answer:  Jesus.  In Revelation 3:1 Jesus reveals himself as the Lord of the Church:

He holds it in palm of his hands.
He directs it through the Sevenfold Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

How does this truth shape what we are as the people of God?  How does this help or impact how we make decisions?  What does it mean that “Jesus is in charge around here?”

And what is true of the Church as a whole is true of us individually. Often a child will say to another, “Hey, you’re not in charge of me!”  What does it mean that “Jesus IS in charge of me?”

CRUCIAL TO THE CHURCH

A good reputation is a crucial thing.

At least the church in Sardis had that; they had a good reputation.  Churches should have good reputations in their community—a reputation for being Christ centered, loving, honest, helpful and so on.

What about our reputation?  How does our community view our congregation?  Does it see it as a household of Christ filled with joy, peace, unity and good works?

What can we do corporately to enhance the view that others have of us?  What can we do individually to enhance the view that others have of us?

(Something to remember:  a good reputation is not an end in itself.  We want to win a good reputation to the glory and honor of our Jesus!)

LITTLE SLEEP IN BATTLE

There is not much sleeping that happens in fox holes.  Fox holes by necessity are places of vigilance.  When you are in the front line of battle, you better stay alert or you could get hurt.

That’s where we live out our life in Christ:  we are in the fox hole of spiritual battle.  We are on the front line against Satan and the powers of hell.

We better stay awake spiritually!

Hmmm…. What does that mean, “To stay awake spiritually?”

How do you stay awake spiritually?  Are you awake or asleep?

GREAT HOPE IN JESUS!

For all of the challenges that we face spiritually, physically, financially and every other way, we win.  In Jesus there is victory.  Now.  Always.

Jesus promises to you that once your time in this world is complete you will shine in the finest of robes and be remembered personally at the throne of God.

Jesus promises.

You can’t get better than that.

THE LAST NOTE

This is going to be a big weekend at St. Luke:

A Dramatic Presentation of Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, Saturday at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m.  Invite friends!
New Member welcome on Sunday at Bible class and the 11:00 service.

Our auxiliary parking lot will be open this weekend (weather permitting).  If you are able to park up on the grassy hill, please do so.  Having 20 or so cars there will provide more empty spaces in our regular lot… especially for visitors and those with physical difficulties.

We are taking preliminary steps to make a more permanent solution to our parking problem.  (This is one problem that is a good thing!)
