WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED?
Our facilitator began the first session by asking us how our people are weathering the recession spiritually. (I told one of my buddies that in Michigan we don’t look at it as a recession; we look at it as a way of life!)
So I thought I’d ask, “How are you weathering the recession spiritually.” Or maybe more to the point, “What have you learned about Jesus in the midst of the recession?”
Drop me a note.

WHAT ARE YOU SEEING?
During this training event we were concentrating on cultural influences in our community. We were asked to put together a “cultural map.” This map was to indicate the trends we see in our immediate community and the trends we see in our congregation.
So I thought I’d ask, “What trends do you see in our community? What trends to you see in our congregation?”

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
During the conference we considered the use of technology. Can you tell me about your use of technology?
• Are you on Facebook?
• Do you send text messages? How many? How about the kids?
• What is your favorite web site?
• Do you go to the St. Luke’s web site? What for? How often?

WHAT ARE YOU READING?
I heard it again. Researchers have studied the responses of over ¼ million people: the single greatest factor in spiritual development is reading and reflecting on the Scripture.
Tell me about that in your life. What do you find to be helpful to grow in Knowing the peace and the power of the Cross?

SERIOUS ABOUT THE GAME: The Temporary Nature of Things
Jesus reminds us that everything in this world will one way or another be torn down, wear out, rust out or decay. (Mark 13:1-8, Matthew 6:19-21) This doesn’t mean things are bad, just that they are temporary.
In worship I encouraged you to tag some things in your life as temporary. What did you tag? How did that help clarify and prioritize things in your life?
While every thing is temporary, every one is eternal. Eternal in and of itself is not good. Eternal is only good if it is with God. And it is only with God if it is in Jesus!
I hope that gives you something to celebrate! I hope that gives you something to ponder. And I hope that gives you something to do!
