SHAMELESS PLUG, I

I do not like to use these e-messages to plug activities at St. Luke.  My intention generally is to give people something to ponder, something that encourages, something that reinforces.  But I do want to mention an opportunity this week.

This Sunday, February 14 after the 11:00 service we will offer our monthly Service of Prayer and Anointing.  The service is very informal and relatively brief.  But powerful.  The service consists of encouragement, quiet and personal prayer with anointing of olive oil.

People who have attended previously have found it to be very helpful when facing difficulties.

So, if you have a particular hurt or difficultly in life that has been getting you down, check this out.

SHAMELESS PLUG, II

Okay, there is a second one as well.

This Sunday during the Adult Bible study time in the Fellowship Center we are going to be viewing the Already Gone DVD.  This video helps us consider what is or is not impacting young people in the walk with Jesus.

Anyone who has a desire to see children thrive in their walk with Jesus will not want to miss this.

SHAMELESS PLUG, III

Last one.  I promise.

Next Wednesday, February 17, we begin the Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday Service at 7:00 p.m.  (A dinner will be served prior to the service at 6:00 p.m,)  Make sure you bring your own Bible to the mid-week Lenten Services.  We will be using them during the sermon.

THE TREASURE PROVIDER

Luke 5:1-11 shows Jesus enriching his disciples in two ways:  first he puts bread on their table (well, he gives them a miraculous catch of fish), then he calls them to follow him.

The order is instructive.  First he teaches them to trust him for daily bread so that they can trust him for bigger things.  Consider this, “If we cannot trust God for such a little thing as daily bread, how can we trust him to raise us from the dead?”

So is the emptiness.  These were professional fishermen and they got skunked.  Jesus met them in their failure, in their emptiness and filled them to overflowing.  And so in our walk with him, he fills up our emptiness.  We have nothing to bring before the Father to merit his kingdom, but Jesus’ righteousness fills us to overflowing.  Consider this, “We are utterly dependent on God for both our physical and our eternal life.”

And then there is the abundance…  They had plenty of fish to share.  And more than that, as newly called fishers of men, they would be sent out to share the great abundance of the Kingdom of God!  God fills us up to overflowing!  We are set free to be generous with all things.

Since this Presidents’ Weekend, spend some time giving thanks to God for the blessings of our nation.  Pray for our President, his family and other leaders.

Keep the faith.  Pass it on.
