Dear Brothers and Sisters:
THE POWER OF FOUR
Brian Proffit in a recent article for Group Publishing discussed some research about overcoming temptation. He examined what helped Christians live more faithful and distinctive lives.
To make a not too long story short, he found that the most powerful impact came from reading and reflecting on the Bible at least four days of the week. He called it “The Power of Four.” Statistically this discipline provided greater protection than all other spiritual disciplines.
Of special note was how this applied to teenagers as well. Do you know the Bible reading habits of your teens?

I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU!
Given the previous comments ...
Let me encourage you to attend the Bible study this week (December 13) in between worship services. We are going to spend some time thinking about and developing personal Bible reading goals for the year (not everyone will necessarily decide to read the whole thing).
I will provide:
Some good reasons to develop Bible reading habits
Information about various Bible translations
Suggestions on different Bible editions
Various Bible reading strategies
Ideas for children and Bible reading
Discussion about support for Bible reading
(I know some of you receive this e-message from someone else passing it on and you may not live in our community. Let me encourage you, where ever you are to make sure that you have a Bible reading plan for 2010 -doesn’t have to be the whole thing. If you want suggestions or have questions, feel free to contact me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).)

GIFT GIVING IDEAS
Are you having trouble figuring out what to give people for Christmas? Why not give them a word from God? Try sharing with others a passage of Scripture that is significant to you.
Of all the gifts you give, if you give someone the word of God, you are giving a gift that will last! “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40: 8
Here are some “gift giving” suggestions:
For Those with Financial Fears “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” Matthew 6:31-32
For Those Who Mourn Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” John 11:25-26
For Someone Seeking Guidance Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
For New Parents Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
For The Lonely A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
For Someone Who Struggles But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” II Corinthians 12:9
For the Person Who Has Everything For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. I Peter 1:18-20

I hope you read to the end. This is the important reminder: Don’t forget to remember to bring your Bible to worship this Sunday.
