Hard

HARD TIMES

That’s what the papers are saying.  The economy, the housing markets, the school systems and the like.

That’s what people are saying.  I hear people concerned about jobs, health, kids, parents and the like.

That’s what students are saying.  Students face peer pressure, academic demands, life decisions and the like.

Let’s remember this word of God through Paul:  “ Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV)

Good advice.

HARD HEARTS

Many have hardened their hearts against God and his love in Jesus.  In a time when the word is so freely available, it is sad to see so many reject or ignore it.

Let’s come against hard hearts with acts of love and kindness.  Where ever you go, especially if you are among unbelievers, seek to live life in such a way that you bring honor to Jesus and a softening to the hard hearts around you.

HARD TO FIGURE

Many of you have gotten more involved in reading the Bible.  As you have, you have found a number of things in the Bible that are hard to figure out.

As we live out our life day by day, we experience many things that are hard to figure out:  why this happened to him, why this did not work out for her.

When we dig further into the sciences, math and history, we will discover any number of things that are hard to figure.

Faith keeps going in spite of what is hard to figure.  Hebrews 11:1-2 says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for.”

Living by faith is to continue to trust God even though many things are hard to figure.  Some things will become clear later.  Some things will never be clear (this side of eternity).  This is not a capitulation to ignorance.  It is an admission of humility.

HARD TO REMEMBER

Don’t forget the time change this Saturday.  Some things are hard to remember:

Spring forward; fall back.
Righty-tighty; lefty-loosy.
“i” before “e” except after “c”
